Privacy notice
How we handle your information.
This notice describes what personal data chinainnovationtrip.com collects, how it is used, how long it is kept, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the People's Republic of China Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL).
1. Who we are
The website is operated by Caroline Chen as an independent personal project under the trade name "China Innovation Trip". For the purpose of applicable data-protection law, Caroline Chen is the data controller. You can reach the data controller via the details listed on the contact section, or by email at chenxinzheng@icloud.com.
2. Data we collect
- Contact and booking inquiries: the information you provide voluntarily through Calendly or by email (typically your name, work email, organization, and a brief description of your inquiry).
- Server logs: IP address, user agent, referrer, and approximate timestamp collected by our hosting provider (Cloudflare) for security and traffic analysis.
- Cookies and similar technologies: only what is strictly necessary for the site to function, unless you opt in to additional analytics or marketing cookies via a consent banner.
3. Cookies
The website does not deploy advertising trackers. Strictly necessary cookies may be set by Cloudflare to detect bots, prevent abuse, and route traffic. Analytics or marketing cookies, if introduced later, will be loaded only after you give explicit consent through a cookie banner. You may withdraw that consent at any time.
4. How we use your data
- To respond to your inquiry and prepare a tailored program proposal.
- To keep the website secure, prevent abuse, and improve performance.
- To comply with legal, accounting, and tax obligations.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with third parties except as described in section 5.
5. Third-party services
- Cloudflare Pages (hosting, edge delivery, DDoS protection, and limited request logs).
- Calendly receives the name, email address and message you provide when booking a fit call. Calendly's privacy practices apply to that data once it leaves this website.
Some of these providers are located outside the European Economic Area or the People's Republic of China. Where required by GDPR or PIPL, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or a recognised adequacy mechanism) to transfer your data.
6. Legal basis (GDPR)
For visitors in the European Economic Area, we process personal data on the following legal bases:
- Consent for any non-essential cookies.
- Pre-contractual measures when you request a program proposal or fit call.
- Legitimate interest for keeping the website secure and preventing abuse.
- Legal obligation for the records we must keep for tax and accounting purposes.
7. Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country of residence.
Under PIPL you have the right to know about and decide on the processing of your personal information, the right to access and copy it, the right to correct or supplement it, the right to delete it, the right to withdraw consent, and the right to request an explanation of processing rules.
To exercise any of these rights, write to the data controller using the details on the contact section or email chenxinzheng@icloud.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Retention
- Inquiry correspondence: up to 24 months after the last contact.
- Server logs: typically 30 days, after which they are aggregated or deleted.
- Tax and accounting records: as required by applicable law (commonly 5–7 years).
9. Children
This website is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
